First however, we’ll start with a brief re-cap…

Humble Beginnings

The original Chase Ace was released way back in 1998 as shareware. It was developed in Visual Basic(!). This game is available for free and may still improve an otherwise dull evening with the friends.

Directly evolved from the original Chase Ace 2 was released on CD-ROM in November 1999. The game was sold solely from www.chaseace.com – An approach that later proved to be quite futile. The game received great reviews and people in general liked and played it a lot.

At some point we were very close to securing an Asian distribution deal. This deal required us to add an animated intro, some end-of-mission cut scenes and a “story” to the game. We did, and the deal died as the other part went bankrupt.

We never managed to break even with the game, and slowly we completely lost momentum. Finally the chaseace.com domain was lost to hijackers and we gave up.

Years passed as we turned our attention elsewhere. Yet we always felt that urge to do something with the game and all the ideas we had with it…

Present Day

Finally about a year ago, we regained control of the domain, and decided to re-release the “Asian version” of Chase Ace 2 as Chase Ace Deluxe…

The Future of Chase Ace Deluxe

It’s important to understand that Chase Ace Deluxe is based on a heap of 10 years old Visual Basic code that – as it happens – doesn’t really represent the way games are made today. This obviously limits the possibilities. Time and money – or rather lack of both – represent other limitations.

We want to release the Editor and the extra mission pack at some point. Unless we run into unexpected piles of money we do not plan on releasing any LAN or multiplayer online modes. Sorry!

The Future of Chase Ace

Chase Ace doesn’t end with Deluxe. Rest assured. May 14.th., 2008 we received Prototype Support from the Danish Film Institute:

Space Time Foam ApS has received 75,000 kroner (approx. 10,000 euros) for “Chase Ace – Off-World Leagues”. Players, controlling vessels with various looks and abilities, such as firepower, speed, acceleration, etc., battle it out in an arena, as they move around, hide, pick up various power-ups, and try to blast each other. We’re working on this prototype as we speak. No more info available yet.

The update includes:

• AI enemy crash bugs fixed
• Timing issues on AMD systems: new timing setting added – flick it and see if it works for you
• Full screen switch fixed
• Courses updated – no more run-time errors
• File size ballooned with course completion animations

We’ll make an update that will include the level editor at some later point. And yes, we’re sorry that we forgot about it in the first place…

• Bug fixes – Now with less crash and Runtime Overflow errors
• Compatibility – Now runs on XP and Vista
• Four new power-ups
• Corny sci-fi storyline for your reading pleasure
• Buggy IPX multiplayer mode removed entirely
• The level editor will be included of course
• Like totally cheap to buy!
• New auto-update thingy that checks if your game is as good as it gets
• We’ll re-create the online level exchange at some point
