I assume there will be a demo and a paid version of the game, I'm sure I'll be buying the paid version of the game, but for those who are trying out the demo, will they have access to multiplayer games? (aka. online central servers)
Perhaps there may be a trial to the game? Which will allow several days to try out what multiplayer is like, and then decide if they would like to purchase the full game or not.
This is usually the best solution that companies take, as demonstrations have limited functionality which may include not having the ability to play online and if new users try out the single player and like it but strongly prefer online interaction with other real-life gamers, then they may decide not to purchase the game unless they know what it's really like online (much more fun in other words).
The full version will definitely have more features, and possibly more functionality (if demo has no online gaming support), Assuming the demo does have multiplayer support or on a time-trial (15/30 days) - will the full version have any other recognizable additions which allow others to see that paid users have better features?
For example, maybe on the scoreboard, a little star could appear next to the name, representing that the user has been registered (paid) and perhaps even give extra functionality like the turbo on the spaceship is coloured, you can choose any colour turbo.
This is only a minor difference, but I took the idea from another game which has Demo/Full version, and once they pay $10 they can have a star and different coloured jetpack fire of their choice while demo users can only have the original yellow colour + have no star.
Maybe they can have clan tags enabled, or the ability to make clans etc. (maybe for the future as there probably wouldn't be clans yet). Or perhaps they can change to a locked ship type which isn't available to the normal demo user.
This I believe may allow the user to pay for the full version because they desire the features that us paid players have, I know it worked in the other game I played where most people decided buying it because they simply wanted the additional features (and maybe because they wanted to donate).
There may come issues where the trial may be illegally cracked on request of crackers around the internet, so maybe deep trial protection is required. But I think it's a good idea to give demo users a sneak peak of what online play is, because I'm sure they'll love it, as it's more entertaining then AI imo.
Local Area Network wasn't mentioned in the to-do list for CAOWL, but if LAN is possible, beware there are game systems like Hamachi designed to allow players to play online against each other by simply launching the LAN part of the game and opening the Hamachi software which emulates an online server.
So what do you guys think, should there be multiplayer support for the demo users? Maybe limited timing of playing online? Or limited usage of the online gaming altogether (day trial), or limited additional features like (stars, coloured turbo, locked ships/online maps). In CA:Deluxe there are more unlocked features, but with the introduction of a stable multiplayer engine, members can have noticeable gaming enhancements which I think is a golden idea.
Maybe even longer respawn times for demo users? lol nah it may cause rage quit and they'll never want to play again (or would result in them buying the game due to a combo of jealousy/patience/irritation :D)
The star sound like somthing from soldat (soldat.pl) I think ppl with the demo should have 1 level they can play on, paying members can join in but demo players can not join paying members levels.
Yeah the star idea is from Soldat, just read the registration page and they have alot more enhancements like new interfaces etc. Yeah good idea, members should be able to join any game, and the members-only games.
I forgot what the group term is called but it goes something like this, a decision movement based on getting people to follow, but without any direct benefits to these followers, the followers realize that if the movement does succeed, everyone like themselves will be affected by the benefit without needing to do anything, so they don't follow themselves.
Then theres a extension to it, where people join that group knowing there are no benefits but there incentives were that by joining in good faith they would feel good just because they were apart of it. This is kindof like donating to the game without any direct benefits.
Hope to see where I'm going with this, even though I confused myself a bit and I'm a bit sleepy :P ..but truth is, having direct benefits is better than having none. In some way the level restrictions and time limit is good but maybe more is needed like the custom turbo colour or ship, this way members can join demo levels and benefits and be recognized.
I wonder if staff introduced CTF mode or something similar, that would be awseome, I didn't hear any news about it though unless I missed it.
I reckon that would be the most fun type of game mode to play online, maybe it's just me but every game I mainly like CTF, because there's a purpose to it, rather than just slaying everyone (which is also fun) but not as fun... more team work and tactics and a range of other elements are included in CTF type gamemodes.
With that locked maybe more players will consider paying for the full version.
Yeah that's what I was thinking, CA is gonna be power-up infected, imagine the possibilities, esp in a team game. I had a dream that I was looking at a CAOWL screen with team game modes :D
The CA staff (4 team members - confirmed) are hard at work on making everything playable because it's not totally complete and you will see the release of CAOWL sometime soon... no release date at the moment, hang tight, thanks to our friends who used to work at CA for the update.
Yeah he sounds reassuring that there's only 4 people at the moment working on it, even though he hasn't worked at CA for a while. (only gets called in sometimes when they need specific parts of the game design made)
But according to here; http://bit.ly/bhr7D9 he's most probably right, as Mads is listed as an 'EMERITUS'.
Keeping in mind they are indie game developers, and most likely share that building with other game developers from different games, so it's understandable. But in turn they can get ideas from each other also.

Chase ace 2 demo had 1 singe player mission and 1 multi player level with a time limit. So making it like that would be nice.

Yeah true, what do you think about the individual enhancements to players like the star or custom turbo/ship?

Some gameplay modes should be locked, only like DM.

Oh that would be fun, teammate steals flag, other teammate covers his back by laying lazers or just shooting mortars and stuff.

4 people? That's pretty tight, I understand if the development goes slow. But atm it's very active.
